Holographic Everything

So, in one of my previous posts, I talked about Holography, how it works, and  the brain being holographic in nature.  In this post, I want to talk about Holographic Everything!  After all, since we are nothing but a brain with mechanical controls and sensors, if the brain is holographic, it would follow that everything around us is also holographic.

Just to recap, the holographic principle basically states that everything within the space-time lattice sphere we occupy is a 3-D projection from an eight-dimensional mathematical pattern with 248 points called an E8, and the information to project this image is inscribed and stored on tiny pixels on the lattice sphere’s surface.

Remember my cute and sexy Ningishzida, who talked about all this fun stuff in the third line of his Emerald Tablet?  Let me repost the third line so we don’t have to keep going back and forth from the Emerald Tablet to this posting:

Ningishzida also said It is the principle part of the world and its custodian.  Who is It?  Well, if It is the principle part of the world, wouldn’t that describe a God?  And if It is the caretaker of the world, wouldn’t that also describe a God’s job?

As cool as Ningishzida is, before I believe every word he says, I would still like to have some scientific evidence to give me something firm to stand on.  Sorry Ningishzida.  Nothing personal.  It’s just in my nature to ask lots of questions about what I am told, even by a deity.

Lucky for me, I find all the answers I look for, even as I am looking for them so I don’t have to ahem—challenge one of my favorite deities.  That’s because I am alive and thriving in 2013.

If I haven’t told you before, I am telling you now.  I am super excited to be living in this day and age, partly because life is a cool adventure and partly because I don’t have to work so hard to acquire information.  For the most part, scientific information has only been available to be disseminated and built upon with the advent and the proliferation of the internet.  All of a sudden, information is at our finger tips.  All we need to do is read it for ourselves and then use our mental energies to think it all through.  The answers are there, floating between all the messengers and the message itself.

Here is where physics corroborates what Ningishzida talked about.  Consider an immersive world computer game where we are playing with hundreds and thousands of other people, in a fantasy world where we can do wondrous things.  In the middle of game-play, it does not take much to throw us out of the fantasy and back into our reality.  Any glitch, any pixelated image, any stops-and-starts will serve to remind us that we are simply playing a game.

Once we turn off our computer game, we go back to a world that is real.  This means that we don’t hit glitches in the game, it doesn’t all of a sudden freeze up on us and give us the blue screen of death, the objects we touch and see do not get pixelated even if we look at them up close.  We can even put them under the microscope and we will still not see pixelation.

So let’s talk about pixelation in a video game.  If we zoom in a bit on the image, reality fades away into small squares that are aligned on a grid.  The better the computer, the finer the grid.  The finer the grid, the more realistic the images become, but there is no getting away from the grid.  That’s because the grid is a necessary aspect of computer graphics.  The tiny squares which make up the pieces of the image have to have a designated spot on the grid lines to occupy.

So—let me ask you this.  What does it imply if we are able to locate the grid lines of matter in our universe?  Here is the more interesting question.  What if we have already found these grid lines?

According to an announcement from a team of physicists at the University of Washington [1]:

Currently, supercomputers using a impressive-sounding technique called lattice quantum chromodynamics, and starting from the fundamental physical laws, can simulate only a very small portion of the universe. The scale is a little larger than the nucleus of an atom, according UW physicist Martin Savage. Mega-computers of the far future could greatly expand the size of the Sim Universe.

If we are living in such a program, there could be telltale evidence for the underlying lattice used in modeling the space-time continuum, say the researchers. This signature could show up as a limitation in the energy of cosmic rays. They would travel diagonally across the model universe and not interact equally in all directions, as they otherwise would be expected to do according to present cosmology. [2]

In other words, zoom in far enough to any part of the universe and we see something interesting.  Where the grid work lattice occurs, the energy of the cosmic rays would be curiously missing.  Moreover, it would be missing in a very regular and lattice-like pattern.

It would make sense then that our brain is a hologram and all our senses use holographic method to allow us to experience the universe.  After all, it would take a hologram to make sense of a hologram.  Or to put it another way, “It takes one to know one.”

Wait a minute.  Didn’t Ningishzida imply that It was a God in his Emerald Tablet?  I didn’t just say, in my usual random blonde moment that “It takes a God to know a God”, did I?

OK, let’s just say we are not Gods, but if It is a God, then why does God need a lattice?

I was Pissed!!!

I spent YEARS looking at the placement of the I Ching.  It was maddening in its complexity.  I tried this way.  I tried that way.  I stood on my head.  I looked at it upside down.  I spent countless hours digging up old information, scouring the world for new information, translating different languages, talking to every random person I could find who claimed to know the I Ching through meditation, through medication, through channeling, through random reincarnations, through their brother’s possessed transistor radio.

You name it, I tried it—only to find the same old words staring at me in the face.  I was obsessed, but stuck, staring at tiny random whorls and pockmarks on a wall that was as ancient as dirt and wondering if they were made by design or by chance dust devils.   The 64 hexagrams seemed to be so randomly placed that I just couldn’t figure out the pattern for it.  What is the system?  Is it random?  Why is there no reason and rhyme for its accepted ancient pattern?

Finally, in a burst of frustration, I shattered the I Ching into bits and pieces.  I hacked it with my sword of mental energies.  I tore it up into shreds of its former glory.  I blew it up into little confetti pieces.  And breathing hard, I saw the pieces dance and flutter on a gentle breeze in the afternoon sun.  And as the pieces floated down onto the ground in shiny drops of self-contained totality.  I realized that I hadn’t destroyed it at all.  I merely took a single I Ching and created a hundred other completely intact I Chings!

That was when I knew I was looking at a hologram.

Chapter 14 – Tao Te Ching

Look at it, it cannot be seen
It is called colorless
Listen to it, it cannot be heard
It is called noiseless
Reach for it, it cannot be held
It is called formless
These three cannot be completely unraveled
So they are combined in to one

In my previous post, Axiom: Self-evident Truth, I talked about the meaning of the word Axiom, and I talked about how truths change over time, as human knowledge and awareness grows and develops.  Since we all co-create the reality we find ourselves immersed in, that which appears within our collective minds as the currently accepted axiom of truth will shape what we experience at the moment of reality that we pass through in time.

This means that, for example, if we all decide that the Moon Axiom embodies the story of the moon goddess, Hằng Nga, then it would be the truth because we have made it so, and in doing so, we have used our minds to explain the world around us in a figurative fashion.  Once our understanding grows, our Moon Axiom shifts into a whole new dimension and we are again, able to explain the workings of the world around us, this time, in a more informed and more literal sense.

I have no doubt that once we have attained frequent and easy space flight, when trips to the moon are as common as a flight to Denver International Airport, we will have even more insights into the Moon Axiom, furthering the truths which will allow for a much clearer understanding of the future model of our Moon Axiom.  We will yet again, be able to shift into another paradigm of understanding whereby our future selves will laugh at our current understanding of the Moon Axiom, just as we laugh at the previous generations’ understanding of the Moon Axiom.

I am belaboring this concept because I want to point out that this is a holographic way of looking at axioms.  Remember in my previous post, Holographic Nature of Our Existence, when I talked about the features that holograms exhibit?  Well, one of the important features of a hologram is that it can be broken into small pieces but it will still show the entire image, albeit a bit grainier and less clear than if the whole holographic plate is used to create the hologram.  Likewise, the more pieces of truth we gather about the moon, the clearer the Moon Axiom will appear to us, but missing a few pieces here and there is not going to make the moon unrecognizable.  Granted, it will show a grainy image of the moon in the perspective of the piece that is currently being viewed, but the fundamentals will be there.

Wait a minute, you may think.  That doesn’t sound right.  How does a fairy tale about Hằng Nga have any resemblance to the dusty spherical satellite that revolves around Earth?  Of course, the answer is, it doesn’t.  What it does have though, is the beginnings of a method of explanation about a nightly-occurring phenomenon that is cartoony and in primary colors because that is how one teaches young children to view the world.

We don’t start kindergartners off with complex formulas for the dimensions and distance of the moon in regards to the Earth and the Sun.  We start them off with metaphors and easy to grasp stories to develop their natural state of curiosity and creativity.  We start with basic shapes, accessible cartoon-like characters, and simple language to explain simple concepts.  As the child progresses in development, the stories get more complex, the images more realistic, the mathematics more advanced.  The absolute blacks and whites become more defined, a multitude of shades of grey become visible, allowing for a more complex, less distorted image to be revealed.

Alongside this more complex and clearer picture, the student eventually comes to the crashing realization that the fairy tales that have been told throughout the ages are only there to move the student along to a higher level of understanding.  The happily-ever-after ending so often parodied quite possibly may not end in that happy, happy, joy, joy fashion.  There may be a darker side to the bright and shining truth, nay, there MUST be a darker side that exists, as surely as the Tao has a yin and a yang, because that is how the universe exists.

I drew an analogy between the Moon Axiom and the Tao Axiom so that I could make a parallel that would be meaningful to the Tao Axiom and what it could possibly mean to the ancients who apparently knew what the Tao Axiom actually was.  So let me pull those questions I had asked earlier back out into the open so that we can digest it further.

What does Tao Axiom mean?
Tao Axiom means the Self-evident Truth about the Tao.

Is the Tao of the ancients the same as the Tao of the modern-day Taobabes?
Obviously not, since the Ancients operate on a different level of truth that the modern-day Taobabes (or anybody else, for that matter) have not yet reached.  The ancients had more pieces of the Tao hologram plate than we do.  Peering through a tiny shard shows us a fuzzy image of the whole.  Add to that our relative youth and inexperience and we are barely seeing amorphous cartoon blobs of primary colors moving about to try to attract our attention and to get our eyes to learn how to focus properly.

Can we really wield the Tao of the ancients?
Sure!  Once we grow out of childhood and into our godhood, we will be able to wield the Tao of the ancients.  It is our birthright, but as with all birthrights, we have to learn how to wield it and also earn the right to do so before it can be entrusted into our care.  How can an entire universe be turned over to ones such as we if we cannot even maintain the little romper room that is Earth?  Our little planet was not called The Planet of the Children for no reason.  We still have much to learn about our own treatment towards one another, and we still have to figure out how to keep Earth from convulsing in our toxicity.

Were the ancients’ scientific knowledge so vast that they didn’t even bother to have to go through the proof work of the Tao Axiom?
Yes.  And even if they wanted to, how could they possibly describe 248 dimensions of reality to those who have barely begun to explore the basics of electromagnetic, gravity, and time?  The proof work could only be explained once the scientific and spiritual knowledge of the student has reached a level that would be adequate to grasp the material.  Good news is—we are rapidly reaching that point where knowledge begins to burst forth in rapid successions, each growing from previous knowledge, gaining speed and traction as other points of knowledge converge and exponentially expand.  With the oncoming tide of quantum computing, we will crawl out from under the Stone, Bronze, Iron, and Steel age, to rise into the Diamond Age where we can manipulate atoms at will, and in the process, truly wield the Tao of the ancients.

Holographic Nature of Our Existence

Holograms are not suppose to be things of the near future.  We’re suppose to be swimming in holograms at this time.  Our present-day technology should be so advanced that we should be able to stay home all day in our pajamas and still be able to go about our business using our holographic representations.  If we need to be at meetings or to visit friends, we should be able to simply send our holograms out there to take care of our business.

Our computers, musical instruments, books, electronic devices, they should all be holographic in nature.


Why this has not happened yet, at this late date, I haven’t a clue.  We’ve known how holograms work  since 1971 when Dr. Dennis Gabor got the Nobel Prize in Physics for his invention and his development of the holographic method.  It has been over forty years, and we’ve barely even touched the surface of what holographic technology can do.

Most people, when asked about what they think of holograms, usually think of Star Wars characters like this alien guy.  That’s because there hasn’t been an overabundance of holograms hanging around in the public square.

To be perfectly frank, other than the New York airport hologram that’s been out earlier this year, I really haven’t seen any floating around.  The holographic technology of humanity in 2012 sure looks better and more solid than the holographic technology of a society that has achieved spaceflight.  Look how nice and solid the holographic woman at the New York airport is.  The alien above is see-thru.  He can barely refract light back to our eyes!

My simple definition of a hologram is a 3D image of a real object or person that has been projected from a lighted source so that we can walk all the way around and see the image in 3 dimensions.  This is basically what most folks think about the subject.

Yawn.  (…wanders off and plays Xbox).

And I go off and do some research on how it actually works because I am just that curious about weird sciency-stuff like this.  As usual, I like recipe-style layouts because it simplifies the process, even if I never want to put one together.  Somehow, just seeing something in a recipe pattern makes things clearer and less confusing to me (see Recipe for Scrying Machine)

Here’s how it works.  Let’s say we want to make a hologram of an apple.  We need to collect the ingredients and follow the recipe.  Keep in mind that this is only one of several ways to create a hologram.  I chose it because it’s fairly simple.

2 diffusing lenses
1 holographic plate
1 laser.


  • Turn on laser beam at the top right of diagram.
  • Shine the beam into a beam-splitter which will produce two separate beams.
  • The first beam is sent through a diffusing lens, bounce off the apple at the bottom right, and onto the holographic plate.
  • The second beam goes to the first mirror, bounces off that first mirror and into the second mirror.
  • It then bounces off the second mirror, through the second diffusing lens, and onto the holographic plate.
  • The plate is then recorded.
  • To see the apple, simply shine another laser beam through the film and the apple reappears in 3D.

Strange, isn’t it, that we can be able to reproduce the image of that apple in 3D from the patterns on a 2D holographic plate that does not even have the image of the apple on it simply by shining a light through the plate.  As a matter of fact, this holographic plate actually contains far more information than a regular focused image ever possibly could, and therefore allows us to see a true 3D image which will change its appearance to correspond with the direction we are looking at.  It will show us the apple from different angles, just as if we were looking at a real 3D object. How does it do this?

If we look closely at the plate, it’s got nothing but a bunch of concentric circles.  Here’s a closer look at the plate.

These circles are like concentric circles that occur when pebbles are thrown into a pond.  The waves from the pebbles hitting the surface of the water create a pattern called Interference.  The complex pattern that results from all those wave collisions is called an Interference Pattern.

Now, here is where the magic of holography begins.  If we take a regular photograph and cut it into pieces, all we can see are pieces of the photograph.  However, if we break that holographic plate into pieces, each individual broken piece will still be able to show the entire image, albeit at the angle where it was broken.  That’s because every portion of the holographic plate contains ALL the information of the whole.  The theory and mathematics behind this idea is kinda hairy, but…

Stay with me here!  This is an important concept and it is called the Holographic Principle.

According to physicists, the holographic principle hypothesizes that our three-dimensional reality is a projection from information spread out on a two-dimensional surface called a cosmological horizon that is 13.7 billion light years away.

Dr. Garrett Lisi, an American physicist who wrote a paper entitled “An Exceptionally Simple Theory of Everything”, proposed that the universe’s cosmological horizon, when seen in 2D would look like this colorful circle that can be digitally created using a complex, eight-dimensional mathematical pattern with 248 points called an E8.  This E8 pattern contains the symmetries of a geometric object that is 57-dimensional and is itself is 248-dimensional.  Lisi says “I think our universe is this beautiful shape.” *


Amazingly enough, this pattern was first found in 1887 by a mathematician named Wihelm Killing, but only fully understood by mathematicians a few years ago.  “This dense object is so complex, in fact, that it was plotted by computer for the first time in 2007. It took a team of 18 mathematicians — the Atlas of Lie Groups project at the American Institute of Mathematics — four years to calculate and plot the formula for E8. The group spent two years on the calculations, and two more dedicated to figuring out how to calculate the shape on the computers available today.” **  E8 is now being used to calculate masses of new particles that have been churned up by the activities of the Large Hadron Collider.

This pattern is gorgeous!  It also gave me a bit of a headache because I was trying to figure out how something like this could generate galaxies and star systems, mountains and oceans, and you and me, not to mention my computer and my shoes and my little blonde cocker spaniel.

It is just mind boggling to imagine that this two-dimensional pattern laid out on a cosmological horizon can hold all the information we need to describe our universe.  I couldn’t visualize it, so I went looking through the internet to find something I could use to visualize this phenomenon (as an artist, I really need visualizations to grasp huge and difficult concepts).  Well, as luck would have it, I found this photo of a collapsible Hoberman expanding sphere toy.  It shows what the 3D sphere would look like if it was a flat 2D surface.

Now, imagine that the E8 Pattern is the holographic plate in our 3D Apple recipe from above.  The world we live in would be the holographic projection.  The information that is needed to form us would be laid out flat on a 2D E8 pattern.  The real objects would exist somewhere else beyond the holographic plate.  Sounds like a huge computerized holographic machine, doesn’t it?

But just like our computers, all this information has to be manipulated and stored somehow.  In the case of our Universe’s information, that’s a whopping number!  All that information has to have a data bank large enough to hold the information, much like our computer hard drives which do the bulk of the storage and archiving process of our computing activities.  The Universe’s data files are stored within the universe’s ultimate information-storage devices—black holes.

To understand how black holes store information, we should touch upon another concept called Entropy.  Entropy describes all the different ways we can rearrange the components of something—“a system”—and still have it look essentially the same.  If I tried to switch one page of a novel from its original placement to another section, the novel has changed and you would know it.  In this sense, it has very low entropy.  If, on the other hand, I took a bucket of pebbles and switched one of the pebbles from one position in the bucket to another, you wouldn’t know the difference.  Nor would you care.

What makes black holes amazing and unique is that all black holes look the same.  They all look like…well, they look like black holes!  Aside from a few qualities that distinguish them, such as mass, electric charge, and angular momentum, one black hole is as good as another.  There is no way to tell what has gone inside of a black hole.  Once it goes in, it’s gone.  This makes it the absolute top of the line storage unit because it gives black holes maximum entropy.  In an online report from Nova, a division of PBS, there is a good description of the entropic aspects of a black hole:

In the 1970s, Stephen Hawking and Jacob Bekenstein discovered that the entropy of a black hole obeys a different scaling rule. It is proportional not to the black hole’s three-dimensional volume but to its two-dimensional surface area, defined here as the area of the invisible boundary called the event horizon.  Therefore, while the actual entropy of an ordinary object—say, a hamburger—scales with its volume, the maximum entropy that could theoretically be contained in the space occupied by the hamburger depends not on the volume of the hamburger but on the size of its surface area. Physics prevents the entropy of the hamburger from ever exceeding that maximum: If one somehow tried to pack so much entropy into the hamburger that it reached that limit, the hamburger would collapse into a black hole.” ***

What this means is, my friend…everything that can be seen, tasted, touched, and experienced can all be described and called forth from a two-dimensional plane in space.  This suggests that the most basic nature of the Universe (and the ultimate grande finale of the theory of physics) have to have a basis in two dimensions, and that is the Holographic Principle in a nutshell.
